A gentle local weekend in Bowness and Ambleside

Two bumps at Bowness Bay! Two bumps at Bowness Bay!

What a wonderful weekend we've just had.  One of my best friends came up from Hampshire to visit us and we took her on a whirlwind tour of the local area!  Mind you, we're both 6 months pregnant, so it was less whirlwind and more gentle breeze!

Saturday afternoon we took the very short walk to Biskey Howe viewpoint and enjoyed the glorious sunshine, allowing us magnificent views of the Lakes.  Then we headed down through Bowness, having a nosy at the shops and heading to the Bay to feed the ducks and swans.  Onwards for a gentle walk round Cockshott Point and an obligatory ice cream at the marina!  Back home for a rest and some tea and then out for an amazing Tapas at Bodega, within easy walking distance from the B&B.

Sunday saw us take another leisurely walk, this time to Post Knott.  Bit misty and cloudy today so not quite as good a view!  We dropped off the other side and walked down to the Bay to catch the boat to Waterhead/Ambleside.  It's just so nice to get out on the lake, even if the weather wasn't perfect!  It stopped off at Brockhole on the way, letting some of the passengers get off to enjoy the re-launched Brockhole Visitor Centre.  No sign of the mysterious monster of the lake, "Bownessie"...

We got to Ambleside and enjoyed lots and lots of cake at Cafe Altitude, the scrummy cafe above the new climbing wall.  As we sipped our tea and ate our cakes we peered through the glass at the brave souls who were attempting to climb the wall beside us.

Then on to Stock Ghyll Falls for the circular walk through the woods to enjoy the waterfalls.  At this time of year there are very few leaves on the trees, but everything was still green as it was all covered in very very thick moss.

Our final stop of the day was to an Art Gallery in Ambleside where we purchased some lovely pieces, before finally heading back to Oakdene for some well earned feet up time!
